AIM Being Discontinued! What now?

Got a message today that claims AIM will be discontinuing for good as of December 15. Read as follows-

So....as the title says, what now? Is there one single messenger program that would work well for all of us? I've only ever used this one...and I'm primarily concerned with those I frequently enjoy private games with, since I'll want to keep logs and all...but naturally, I want to hang on to as many of my good friends and conversation partners as I can, whether we RP or not. Discuss?

Fuck... Well... the most reliable one I have so far is Discord. Skype is my only other one, but a lot of people are moving away from it to go to Discord, because it's way more reliable. The only downside is that logs are on a cloud service instead of your computer, but you can still see them via a hack or two.

If I had to guess? Probably a mix of wanting to narrow it down to one provider so they can start charging for the service because then they've got you with "where else you gonna go?" and possibly wanting to get everyone who uses these private messengers all gathered into one spot to make it easier to sift through everything and make sure everybody is only talking about things that are in the government's best interests. Just going by the trends as I've seen them lately. God dammit...

I have to agree with Geno on discord. It's not too bad, the only problem I have with it is there's no independent history window.

Discord is pretty good as mentioned above, also slack is pretty okay too. Skype....exists but is kinda bloaty.

I think it'd probably be a good idea to make a Discord for this forum, but I also tend to use Trillian as a messenger hub. Even with AIM vanishing, I've still got that, which will keep Trillian, GoogleTalk, and... that's about it after AIM vanishes. Then there's Skype, which I do have as well.

That wouldn't be a horrible idea. I've kind of discontinued using Skype but I like discord, and it would be an easy way to keep track of everyone.
